pots for purple lovers

I know there's not the tiniest clue anywhere in this blog ;)

But I just love the colour purple.
Half the flowers in my garden are purple, blue, lavender and mauve.
My office is painted in 3 shades of it.
As is my bedroom.
My car would be purple if only the colour had been on offer.

So you can imagine how delighted I was when this bowl came out of the kiln.

Thankfully, I have the glaze recipe. So I'll be making some more ;)

Chocoholics - this one's for you!

I love a good laugh. Came across this sign just now. Made me chuckle. I KNOW it doesn't have anything to do pottery... unless you think that munching chocolate forms the basis on which creativity may flourish.

Better stick with the chuckle, feed the chocolate to the dogs - they understand too - and do something constructive ....

because I love her

I am a softie: I make something nice ... get all excited ... show it around ... see that it appeals to someone I'm fond of ... have the idea that s/he might like to have it and once I've reached that point, I can do nothing but give it away.

The most recent example: a cup I had thrown some time ago, then left standing around for ages until I got out my Christmas present brushes (they are great, Zan! x) to paint on the glaze. Into the kiln it went. Out it came. I was chuffed.

Along came my lovely Fabia. Her eyes lit up. She likes it, I thought, wouldn't it be nice if it was her's.... no need to spell out the rest!

Thanks to the photos taken with the camera she also got from you know whom(!), I can at least show it here and have a visual incentive to do it all over again ;)

Should I toughen up? It may be better for business...
I don't think so!!  ;)))

build a better blog - step 1

Kipps & Polly: We're freezing

It's been sooooo cold these last few weeks that I'm only just getting back into my workshop. I did, however, try and make good use of the time and spent H O U R S building my website, taking the first wobbly steps into the social media world and trying to make my blog more attractive.

I'm really chuffed with the changes I've made and thought I should do the decent thing and share ... assuming of course that you haven't already got there ...

How many blog posts do you have?
Do they still all get read?
Or do they - one by one - fade into obscurity?

I certainly find it downright depressing to think that blog posts go out of sight and out of mind. Which is why I'm so pleased with this cool little widget called LinkWithin  - it's nothing short of amazing.

See the 'You might also like' at the end of this post? The three pictures highlight posts in my archive. The widget selects them pretty much at random every time my blog's viewed. It happens automatically. I do nothing at all. MAGIC.

Set up is easy!

  1. Go to: http://www.linkwithin.com
  2. Enter your email address, your blog's url, your platform from the drop down menu and the number of posts you want to display
  3. Click Get Widget and copy the code.
  4. Return to your blog, go to Layout, add gadget, select HTML, type LinkWithin in the title box and copy the code to Contents. Save.

And that's it. No need to place the gadget. It doesn't show up when you view your blog. So no unwanted clutter. Hurray :-) - Hope you like it.

green with envy

Well, I might be if I was the envious type which I'm not ... phew! But I must say that my sister does have some rather gorgeous ceramics. Visited her last week and couldn't help whipping my camera out yet again. Take a look to see what I mean ...

flat serving platter, slightly raised rim

square platter, slightly turned up edge

large bowl - approx. 35cm dia

even bigger bowl - around 40cm dia

I love all of these. The round bowls have holes in the rim, wire is attached, so when not in use they hang on the wall. Ever so decorative. I particularly like the speckled clay on the last picture. Must try and experiment with some myself ...
